12 year old mammoth mule, was rescued from the slaughter auction. Was sent there because of old injury that didn’t heal quite right. She is spending her retirement with her best friend Bonnie. With pain management and proper farrier care merlot is slowly making progress.

22 year old mini donkey. Blind in one eye but a heart of gold. Rescued from slaughter as well, enjoys his days with his pal Jd, another mini donkey. George is also on a pain management plan due to his age, but you wouldn’t guess by how he gets around.

22 year old arabian whose owner was fell on hard times. He donated Ithica to DSEC but continues to come out once a week and volunteer around the ranch as well as pays for her farrier visits. Ithaca is on paon management for an old injury that causes her some back pain.

4 year old mini mule saved from slaughter. Very scared of humans and arrived with feet in not so great condition which caused him severe pain. On pain management along with proper hoof care, diet, patience and a gentle touch we are starting to get through.

20 year old pony, saved from slaughter auction. Has laminitis but is being managed with corrective, padded shoeing, special diet and pain medication. 

9 year old mini pony. Saved from slaughter. Along with kissing spine, he arrived with overgrown feet that caused him to start getting clubbed feet. Pain management for the kissing spine and special hoof trims to help correct the clubbed feet.

20 year old mammoth mules, bonded pair. Used to pull wagons during the festival of lights in the neighborhood of Winterhaven in Tucson, Az. Jake has kissing spine and takes daily medication to help with pain as well as extra feed to help put on an appropriate amount of weight.

At his previous rescue the vet recommended euthanasia due to abnormal shoulder. They were unable to get near him with any medical equipemt. He was brought to DSEC and was abled to be gelded, evaluated and get his feet done to help out his shoulder. He will never be 100% but he has shown he has a lot of life left in him. Proper pain management and foot care.
